If you’re craving a beautiful space to escape to this year take a look at Owl Lodge. Whether you are stuck on a work project and need a desk with uninterrupted country views for inspiration or you want to forget about work altogether cosied up under the stars in your own wood fired Hot Tub this space is for you.
There’s no point in tempting you if we don’t have any availability until 2023 so we have waited to release our calendar until now. In this busy summer of UK staycations this is a rare opportunity to get a fabulous Summer stay.
The property sleeps 2 adults and offers a king size bed, log burner, large bathroom, wood fired hot tub and private garden with fire pit.

Spring, it’s the time for change and after recovering from the ‘Beast From The East’ two years ago which saw epic snow and the end of our beloved family Collie dog, I am now cutting the grass amid a riot of blossom, wild garlic and bluebells in the sweltering 25 degree heat…all on my own!
This Winter has been a busy time of developments which are now inching their way to the finish as materials and labour become scarce. But when we do eventually ease our way out of this confinement I will be ready and waiting to welcome you to back to newly self contained Yurts with kitchens and bathrooms and a woodland wood fired Hot Tub. Exciting things that I look forward to sharing.
In the meanwhile it is important to find all of the positives in this new norma. One of the directories we list with are looking to raise money for the NHS heroes with a Camp out in your garden challenge ( for those of you lucky enough to have a garden!). You can find more information here: THE BIG CAMP OUT
If, like me, you are also a bit taken back by the sudden leap from Summer to Autumn why not consider a short break away to step back and actually take pleasure in the colours changing, the cozy jumpers coming back out and splashing in the odd puddle!
Quirky accommodation have put us in their top 10 year round Glamping sites so you can be assured of a great stay. A dry night means sitting round the fire under an early night sky full of stars and even the dampest day can be heavenly installed by the fire in the local pub or soothing the aches and pains away in our Woodland sauna.
We’ve teased you with snippets of the build along the way ( kudos to Rotunda Roundhouses for such a swift build!) but here it is at last. Our latest lovely space for you to come and put your feet up in, The Hide!
The Hide at dusk
We have really pulled our fingers out with this build to create a fabulous private garden with all the things you could need. Fire pit, BBQ, and of course, the essential private outdoor bath house!
The beautiful verandah just shouted rocking chair to us so now theres no better spot to sooth yourself from a busy week, drink in hand, admiring the sunset.
Inside we have gone for earthy tones and warm pinks that sit perfectly with the countryside views. We have tried to include everything for a true home away from home. Whether your are cooking up a feast, putting your feet up with a movie or going for a soak in the clawfoot bath its all there for you.
But for me, its all about a hot outdoor bath on a cool night under the stars. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that!
Down here amongst the rolling holls at The Yurt Retreat in Somerset our Yurts have been putting on their winter coats. Ahem, that is to say… could they be called Yurts? It’s doubtful.
As a caterpillar metamorphoses into a Butterfly, so does the Yurt, it seems.
Lovingly coined the ‘treehouse-yurt baby’ (IE: Yes, imagine if our treehouse, and yurt actually had an offspring? You’re getting there) our new, exclusive Rotunda Roundhouse ( Pioneer) is sitting proudly in the spot where Hazel Yurt once did. The difference between the two? Well, suffice it to say the only real similarity is the shape. The replacement structure itself is more akin to a self contained holiday lodge than a yurt but the essence and soul of the thing still originates from the same roots. Circular, warm, uplifting and unique. A magical experience with ensuite, kitchen and outdoor bath for stargazing.
“Hang on?” I hear you say, “Didn’t you just get one of these last year?”. Yes, indeed, we certainly did. The roundhouse ‘Nest’ was our big project for 2017 and we’ve had such success with it that it’s ignited our passion even further and encouraged us to build another on our beautiful retreat.
See, the beauty of transitioning from a canvas yurt to a timber-framed contemporary Roundhouse is that we are now able to offer our guests the option to retreat over to the Somerset hills all year round. With winter experiences and mini-breaks proving as popular as summer trips, we wanted the opportunity to open our doors over the Autumn (crisp, bright days and crunchy leaves!), winter (snow underfoot and open fires – or 21 degrees, as is being experienced this year?!) and the early spring season (crispy, fosty mornings and snowdrops).
So, come along and experience the Roundhouse for yourself. We are delighted to share our transition with you and to celebrate the opening we are offering a free bottle of bubbly to the first booking of 2019!
This year we have been a bit quieter on social media but with Autumn now here its a great time to take stock and catch up with you about the past season and the exciting new developments for 2018.
April 2017 saw the birth of my son and its incredible how much more efficient you have to become to manage all the additional jobs. Its certainly been a long 6 months learning to parent but we are very blessed to have a happy, inquisitive boy who smiles easily which makes it all worth it.
That doesn’t mean that we have been resting on our laurels as far as the Yurt Retreat is concerned. Far from it! We began the year with our newly restyled Yurts which looked fantastic and we’ve had some great feedback through the season.
In addition to the Yurts we have been working on our new Woodland Sauna building. We are just waiting on a new string of exterior lights and we are looking forward to opening it in a weeks time. We have chosen an Infra red sauna as the health benefits seem even better than a traditional one and we have installed a fabulous outdoor shower but it’s really all about the unspoilt woodland views. Its going to be an amazing place to relax!

In the background we have also been working on another project to upgrade one of the Yurts to a proper wooden roundhouse with an integrated bathroom. Thanks to the fantastic team at Rotunda Roundhouses (www.rotunda.co.uk) we have settled on a 6.5 meter building that will have its own kitchen, be beautifully designed and double glazed and will mean an end to the trip outdoors to use the loo! Now that the Yurts have come down for the Winter we will be getting stuck into this and we are really looking forward to a grand opening in March next year.
Thanks to all of you who have stayed with us this year. Don’t forget that the Birdhouse runs all year round although this Winter is already booking up fast. We look forward to welcoming you back with us again soon and hope that you have a great Autumn.
Coming back from the beach over the incredible bank holiday I couldn’t help but notice that it was darker noticeably earlier. For holidays at the yurts thats excellent news.
With all signs pointing to a lovely September you can now enjoy lovely days and starry nights. What better place to be for that than away from the city lights and sat around the campfire toasting marshmallows and sipping wine.
We don’t have many spaces left through September but we are offering a 20% discount just to make those stars shine a little brighter!
