Escape to the Yurt Retreat to be Far From The Madding Crowds

On Friday the 1st of May the wonderful new film version of Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd, staring Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge and Michael Sheen, hit the cinemas. A certain actress ‘may have’ learnt how to milk at cow at Ford’s Croft Farm- the home of The Yurt Retreat.

Thomas Hardy grew up only 30 minutes from the Yurt Retreat. The countryside that you ¬†experience when you come Glamping at the Yurt Retreat, are the same landscapes that inspired his works, such as Far From The Madding Crowd, Tess of the d’Urbervilles and The Mayor of Casterbridge.

The original 1967 version of Far From The Madding crowd staring Julie Christie, Terence Stamp and Alan Bates was also filmed in the area, with several locations  that you can take a day trip to. Here are some of the 1967 locations you might like to explore when you come to the Yurt Retreat to get away from your own madding crowd!

Bathsheba’s cottage: Bench, Hell Bottom between Hardy’s Monument and Friar Waddon.
