See the Birdhouse come to life

We were lucky enough to catch the last of the summer light with our new video of the Birdhouse.

The Treehouse is our latest addition to the Glamping here at The Yurt Retreat and we thought that the best way to celebrate it’s first season open was to commission the good folks at Fennec films to capture some of the  experience of a stay.

We hope you enjoy!

Barn Owls come to The Yurt Retreat

Barn Owls come to The Yurt Retreat!

It has been an interesting time at The Yurt Retreat.  Barn Owls have been in decline as their habitat and food has greatly reduced across the UK. Paul and his brother Andrew set out to create a happy Barn Owl habitat at the farm, which is the home to The Yurt Retreat. Following guidelines they created a house for a breeding pair of Barn Owls.

Whilst they were looking for a good spot for the house, they saw a Barn Owl nest- which was fantastic news. Making sure they weren’t in the same patch, Paul and Andrew found a magnificent oak tree for the house they had made. You might be able to hear the owls when you visit and stay in one of the Yurts at The Yurt Retreat.

Blooming Lovely Glamping!

The best blossoms this year at The Yurt Retreat.

The best blossoms this year at The Yurt Retreat.

We are blown away by how beautiful the blossoms have been this year. The trees are all weighed down with scented petals, making the bees happy as they go about collecting pollen.

Why not head down to The Yurt Retreat to see for yourself before they all fade away. Sitting out under the stars with your camp fire friends toasting marshmallows; what better way to start the holiday season?

As The Yurt Retreat’s home is in the middle of cider country.  You can pick up a jug of scrumpy on your way or enjoy some cider Brandy. Foraging for local produce was never so much fun!

Do go and check out our live availability calendar to see what dates are left for you to come and enjoy nature in luxury. We look forward to having you come and stay.

Have your own escape Far From The Madding Crowd

Escape to the Yurt Retreat to be Far From The Madding Crowds

Escape to the Yurt Retreat to be Far From The Madding Crowds

On Friday the 1st of May the wonderful new film version of Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd, staring Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge and Michael Sheen, hit the cinemas. A certain actress ‘may have’ learnt how to milk at cow at Ford’s Croft Farm- the home of The Yurt Retreat.

Thomas Hardy grew up only 30 minutes from the Yurt Retreat. The countryside that you  experience when you come Glamping at the Yurt Retreat, are the same landscapes that inspired his works, such as Far From The Madding Crowd, Tess of the d’Urbervilles and The Mayor of Casterbridge.

The original 1967 version of Far From The Madding crowd staring Julie Christie, Terence Stamp and Alan Bates was also filmed in the area, with several locations  that you can take a day trip to. Here are some of the 1967 locations you might like to explore when you come to the Yurt Retreat to get away from your own madding crowd!

Bathsheba’s cottage: Bench, Hell Bottom between Hardy’s Monument and Friar Waddon.

Sheep over cliff sequences: Swyre Head, Lulworth.

The Dragoon Guards: Gold Hill, Shaftesbury and Eggardon Hill, Powerstock.
